Bordeaux Itinerary Overview

Be among the very first kosher wine lovers to experience the beauty and majesty of Bordeaux. This journey stands at the vanguard of opening France's most storied wine region to kosher wine tourism, offering rare access, thoughtful curation, and experiences designed for travelers who expect uncompromising standards alongside world-class wine.

For decades, Bordeaux's legendary châteaux and historic appellations remained largely out of reach for kosher wine exploration. Today, Kosher Wine Journeys is opening that door—and you are invited inside as part of a select group shaping a new chapter in kosher wine history.

From the elegant city of Bordeaux, travelers may choose between two distinct tours, each offering a memorable exploration of the region's celebrated wine landscapes and historic towns. Country Vineyard Escapes is an intimate immersion into Bordeaux's countryside, highlighting renowned estates, charming villages, and behind-the-scenes access to some of the world's greatest winemaking traditions. The Grand Cru Epicurean Experience is a distinctly elevated journey, offering privileged access to prestigious châteaux, exclusive vertical tastings, and a heightened focus on gastronomic dining and wine pairings. Both experiences traverse iconic regions including Graves, the Médoc, and the Right Bank jewels of Saint-Émilion and Pomerol, revealing the people, places, and traditions that define Bordeaux's extraordinary winemaking heritage.

Elevating each journey throughout is the exceptional cuisine of Chef Gavriel Cohen, whose refined kosher creations are thoughtfully paired with the region's wines, bringing food and wine together in a singular, elevated expression.

At the heart of both journeys lies a deeper understanding of wine itself. Wine sanctifies life, yet it also elevates our everyday joys. This is the soul of wine—at once passion and poetry, science and precision—an intersection of Divine grace and human inspiration. These journeys are both a study of that extraordinary partnership and a celebration of one of humanity's most remarkable collaborations with God.

This is an immersive country-estate experience. Château Bellefont-Belcier offers refined accommodations within a rustic Grand Cru–classé setting in the foothills of Saint-Émilion. The historic château balances understated elegance with a sense of lived-in grandeur, featuring tastefully appointed rooms that honor the estate's heritage, abundant natural light, and sweeping vineyard views.

Guests are fully immersed in the serenity of the surrounding vineyards, with inviting indoor and outdoor communal spaces designed for relaxation after days exploring Bordeaux's celebrated wine estates. Amenities include a swimming pool, tennis court, and a small indoor fitness room equipped with an elliptical trainer.

In an era dominated by multinational acquisitions, Bellefont-Belcier remains proudly family-owned, preserving the authenticity and continuity of its traditions. Beyond the estate's acclaimed kosher Grand Cru wine, the family also produces kosher cuvées from its affiliated estates—Château Haut Brisson, Château Le Ray, and Château Tour Saint-Christophe.

Bellefont-Belcier provides an idyllic, bucolic base from which to begin each day's wine explorations.

The château offers three suites and nine elegant standard guest rooms. A private two-bedroom suite is also available at nearby Château Tour Saint-Christophe, located five minutes away, with daily transportation to and from Bellefont-Belcier.

Bordeaux's Jewish history stretches back to the medieval period, later flourishing as a center of renewed Jewish life following the Inquisition, when Sephardic families helped shape the city's commercial and cultural identity. This vibrant community endured until the devastation of the Holocaust, which left a profound and lasting rupture.

Today, Bordeaux stands once again as a place of Jewish resilience, anchored by the majestic Great Synagogue of Bordeaux, once the largest synagogue in France. A visit to The Great Synagogue will anchor our wine tours in the living legacy of Bordeaux's Jewish community, highlighting history, memory and continuity.

Prepare for an unforgettable journey into Bordeaux with Kosher Wine Journeys. This intimate, small-group experience offers rare access to one of the world's most revered wine regions—its vineyards, its people, and its enduring legacy. You will be among the earliest kosher wine travelers to explore Bordeaux in a thoughtful, elevated way, discovering a region whose winemaking heritage is as fundamental to France's national identity as its cuisine and La Marseillaise.

The château and estates referenced throughout this itinerary are illustrative examples of the caliber, prestige, and quality we explore. Final itineraries will be confirmed closer to departure and will feature estates of comparable distinction.

Arrival Day — Monday

Bordeaux → Saint-Émilion Estate Welcome

Guests are met by private transfer upon arrival at Bordeaux–Mérignac Airport or Bordeaux–Saint-Jean Train Station and driven to our country estate in the foothills of Saint-Émilion.

Upon arrival, enjoy a warm welcome with champagne and canapés, followed by time to settle in, refresh, and take in the surrounding vineyards. As our estate is itself a Grand Cru Classé producer of exceptional kosher wine, the journey begins on premises with a guided visit through the château's winemaking facilities.

The evening culminates in a memorable welcome dinner by Chef Gavriel Cohen, served in an elegant glass-walled setting overlooking the vines—a refined introduction to Bordeaux hospitality, cuisine, and wine.

Day One — Médoc

Cabernet, Classification & Château Grandeur

Your first full day explores the Médoc, Bordeaux's most iconic Cabernet-driven region. Once marshland reclaimed by Dutch engineers, the Médoc became home to the grand stone estates built by Bordeaux's elite—châteaux that would come to define fine wine worldwide.

The region's reputation was formalized with the historic 1855 Classification, commissioned for the Paris Exposition during the reign of Napoleon III. Remarkably, a meaningful number of these classified estates now produce kosher wine today.

The day includes curated visits and tastings at distinguished Médoc properties producing kosher wine, with château examples such as Giscours, Lascombes, Cantenac-Brown, and Lagrange serving as representative benchmarks.

Following a day immersed in château life and world-class Cabernet, we return to the city of Bordeaux for a guided introduction to one of France's most important historic port cities.

The evening concludes with an elevated dinner by Chef Gavriel Cohen. Guests participating in the Grand Cru Epicurean Experience will enjoy an enhanced, winemaker-led dining experience at a prestigious Bordeaux estate.

Day Two — Saint-Émilion & Pomerol

Tradition, Innovation & Merlot Mastery

If the Médoc is the heart of Bordeaux, Saint-Émilion is its soul. Today we remain close to the estate, exploring the UNESCO-listed medieval village whose cobblestone streets, ancient churches, and merchant houses remain central to the global wine trade.

Saint-Émilion was also the birthplace of the garagiste movement, when visionary producers challenged tradition in the 1990s with bold, expressive wines that reshaped modern Bordeaux. Today's visits reflect heritage and innovation, featuring influential kosher-producing estates like Château Valandraud and Château La Gaffeliere that exemplify the Right Bank's individualism and evolution.

The journey continues into neighboring Pomerol, home to the world's most celebrated Merlot-based wines. Tastings may include iconic producers alongside boutique, exclusively kosher domaines known for exceptional quality and limited production.

The day concludes back at the estate with time to relax before a refined dinner by Chef Gavriel Cohen, thoughtfully paired with wines from the region.

Final Day — Jewish Heritage & Graves

Continuity, Origins & a Grand Finale

Our final day begins with a visit to Bordeaux's historic Great Synagogue and an opportunity to engage with the local Jewish community. More than a historical landmark, this vibrant Orthodox center continues a living tradition of Jewish life in Bordeaux, offering meaningful perspective on the region's past, resilience, and present.

From there, the journey turns south to Graves, the birthplace of Bordeaux wine. With documented viticulture dating back to the 13th century, this region tells the earliest story of Bordeaux's rise.

The visit concludes with two prestigious estate visits in Graves, with iconic properties such as Château Smith Haut Lafitte and Château Malartic-Lagravière, exemplifying centuries of uninterrupted excellence.

Guests departing that evening will be provided private transfers to Bordeaux–Saint-Jean Train Station or Bordeaux–Mérignac Airport.

Guests participating in the Grand Cru Epicurean Experience will continue onward to one of Bordeaux's most coveted estates for a historic and landmark first kosher winemaker dinner, an extraordinary closing moment reserved exclusively for this elevated journey.

Following an overnight stay, the Grand Cru Epicurean Experience concludes on Friday morning. After a relaxed breakfast, guests will be provided private transfers to Bordeaux–Saint-Jean Train Station or Bordeaux–Mérignac Airport for onward travel.
